I read a book in 1985, set in 1950/60s leeds. About a group of children,involving the death of one of them?

It was about the lifes of a group of children who live in middleton/beeston in leeds, a girl in group was murdered by her boyfriend and dumped in a quarry. The book also had some photos of middleton woods and surrounding areas in it. Cant remember the author or the name of the book.
