Can anyone tell me what happens in the movie "signs"?

sky box registered a power failure 70mins into a recording of the film we were watching, staring mel gibson and Joaquin Phoenix, as this is aparanormal story , it was a funny coincidence because there had not been a power failure at that time! ITs not a film we will watch again so we'd like to know what the mystery of the crop circles was all about,regarding the mystery of the power failure that wasn't ,I am not expecting any answers about that, thanks.
