Catholics a evil religion?

can catholicism really be a church of god if they killed people if they didnt convert and torchered ppl? And would a church of god's leaders have problems with ual abuse? Im looking at all churches to see which one is the truth and i usually can tell if one is ritchous by its history and actions....would this throw anyone off with such a violent and authoritative history???
